On The ... Media

One of my favorite radio programs is On The Media. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but when Bob Garfield reads the credits he always leaves an unnatural pause before saying "by Brooke". And this is what I picture in my head every time.

Edit: I guess everyone who listens to the show notices it.

Art Auction to help Mighty Writers

Hey everybody! There is a BPRD page (Page 1 of issue 1 of BPRD: Russia) up on ebay right now. Procededs from the auction go to help Mighty Writers an organization that teaches inner city kids creative writing. So that's a neat thing! My buddy John Arcudi teaches with them and is organizing the auction.

So here's a chance to get a good page at a good price (it's starting at under $50!!). Click here to bid! The auction ends on Nov. 13, 2011.

And check out all the other art that they are auctioning off hereThere is some Guy Davis, some Sean Murphy and some James Harren too!!

Here's what my page looks like:

B.P.R.D. Russia #1 Page 2 Process

Colors by Dave Stewart, letters by Clem Robins words by John Arcudi and pencils and inks and raps by me Lamar.

I should note that I had to compress the image to make this animated gif. So Dave's colors actually look a ton better in print than they do here.

Challenger's Art Show

Hello! This past Friday (Oct. 7th, 2011) I went out to Chicago to celebrate the opening of Challenger's Comics Petrograd art show! Whooo-hoooo! What they did was take all the original art from for Petrograd and hung it up on the damn wall so you can see the whole book in one room. In fact, if your eyes are far enough apart, you should be able to see the whole thing at once! This is kind of what it looked like:

So if you live in the area, and you feel like maybe you would like to look at some original pages, and you know where Challengers is, or you know how to find out where challengers is, and you have the time then it could be possible that perhaps you could enjoy going over there and looking at it. If you want.

Star(watcher)loser

When Brandon Graham tells comics to do something comics does it! Here is my tragic take on "Starwatcher" by Moebius. This is the sad story of the star loser who's star never came back.

Here is the original by Moebius.

Ashcan All-Stars

I just got involved with a group of artists to do a fancy pants art blog called Ashcan All-Stars. You can check it out on Blogger or on Tumblr. We do a new theme every week so check it out early and often!

Here is a detail of the piece I did this week. The theme was Blacksad. Click the image to see the whole thing.

Sketchbookin'

OK, Get ready for some profanity. I was flipping through an old sketchbook. This one is from about 2003. Kind of a weird style but I thought it was funny so here you go, Internet.

King - City!

I spent this morning unwinding with a little King City fan art. Brandon Graham is making some of the funnest comics in the world.

CBLDF Auction

The San Diego Comic Con is rapidly approaching. One of the really neat things that happens there is an art auction to benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. They are a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of the First Amendment rights of the comics art form and its community of retailers, creators, publishers, librarians, and readers. Although their focus is on comic books, their work helps to influence legal precedent that extends to all forms of free speech.

This year I was asked to contribute to their annual auction by the fine people at Things From Another World (a fine chain of comic shops). They will also be making sketch cards of this drawing that will be available at the convention.

So the point is that you are required to go to the San Diego Comic Con and to bid on my drawing so that we can save the world. The world thanks you in advance.

Not Comics...

There was actually more to this one but it sort of went off the rails after this. Maybe I'll pick it up again later. Probably not.

The Sibbie

Here's a really quick little story about how my cat, The Sibbie, likes to nap on my shoulders while I work. It's pretty cute but it is definitely no good for my back. Also, the panel where she is climbing up my back is like the worst cat drawing ever but it cracks me up so I ain't fixing it.

An Old Drawing

This was a part of a submission for a card game that I did a few years back. It's not very good but It's a fun, silly design. Goat Legs are always a good idea. This was about the time that I first started to really get the hang of inking with a brush (It took about 8 years to get to this point and I'm still figuring it out. Yeash!)

Tortoise

This is just one panel from a larger work-in-progress.
