There are two distinct things happening in step 2.
a) I am trying to soften the under-painting. I was going for (but not completely achieving) a "soft focus" look.
b) I was also trying to obliterate step 1 because it looked horrible!! I figured if I wiped it out, I would be able to fix the drawing and soften the image.

Amazing Mr. Crook! You were always good with drawing and painting people... Can you explain what happens on step 2?
